| 記述 | Transcription : Hale, Kenneth ; Zepeda, Ofelia. Translation : Lopez, Danny. Juanita is from the Papago reservation near Tucson, Arizona. Their songs and dances are part of an effort to retain and restore a language and customs which are on the wane among younger generations in Papago society. These songs are Dream Songs and come from Lorenzo Pablo, a senior member of the troupe who has the gift of realizing songs in actual dreams. Both songs are connected with ritulas for bringing rain, and water imagery is central in each. In the first song the speaker is the saguaro cactus, whose fruit is used in annual summer wine-making ceremonies. |
